RD3 Water Technology Projects
Reverse Diffusion Desalination & Decontamination

Summary
Overview
Signal One International has introduced Reverse Diffusion Desalination and Decontamination (RD3), a patented technology designed to remove dissolved salts and heavy metals from contaminated water at low cost. Unlike traditional methods, RD3 reverses the natural dispersal of contaminants, offering a sustainable and efficient approach to water purification.
Reverse Diffusion
RD3 differs significantly from conventional desalination systems. Instead of forcing salts through a membrane, it sweeps them from the water, reducing both energy usage and maintenance costs. Test data indicate that RD3systems operate at about one-tenth the cost of competing technologies. They require no filter membranes, high-pressure pumps, or chemical reagents, and can be powered by solar energy. Prototypes have been successfully tested, and patents were secured in 2020 and 2021. The next phase involves developing systems ranging from small household units to large-scale municipal applications.
Opportunities
RD3’s versatility makes it valuable for drinking water production, agriculture, and water softening. Many communities suffering from water shortages can benefit from scalable, affordable systems. RD3 can also replace ion exchange softeners, which often burden water treatment facilities with excessive salt discharge.
Environmental Cleanup
Beyond consumption and agriculture, RD3 has potential in pollution control, as it can remove and even recover contaminants from rivers, lakes, and oceans. This makes it not only a cost-effective technology but also a critical tool for sustainable water management worldwide.
