Our History

A 2007 documentary film about Nigeria, illustrated the scope of human and environmental exploitation from unsustainable and corrupt oil production practices in the Niger River Delta. The documentary had a profound and sobering effect on SOI's founder, Bobbie Neubert, and inspired her to action. Viewing this film sparked the beginning of Ms. Neubert’s determination to present a sustainable, ethical plan for the development of Nigerian oil and gas resources, and reverse the troubling plight of the Nigerian people.

As a third-generation oil executive in the United States, she knew that the toxic exposures and long-term pollution, now prevalent in the Niger Delta, was unacceptable in most places in the world. Realizing that the use of the Earth’s natural resources need not be negative and destructive to people’s lives and livelihoods, she focused on the potential for prosperity among people in oil-bearing communities. As her compassion for the plight of the Nigerian people deepened, Ms. Neubert was inspired to combine her expertise in the oil and gas industry with her desire to promote ecological development practices for the enrichment of all people.

Encouraged by her convictions that wise, sustainable use of the Earth’s resources serve its inhabitants, Ms. Neubert established Signal One International, LLC (SOI), in 2008. Since inception, SOI’s purpose supports the use of African natural resources for sustainable business development and environmentally clean living in African communities. The wider scope for SOI includes similar development projects using existing resources to benefit communities worldwide.
